There a number of religious sections in the society of Chhattisgarh such as Satnami Panth, Kabirpanth,Ramnami Samaj and others. The Kabirpanthi samaj includes the Satnami and Ramnami communities. The Kabirpanthis have followed their religious practices,by bringing their beliefs, rituals and symbols in the same status as of dominant Hindu castes.
The Satnamis, have attained the social status in the society by political agitation. Rather, Ramnamis havedistinctive religious practices and has followed it as source of identity and pride. They have attempted to remain as independent from the control of brahmanical Hinduism. The last section of Valmiki’s Ramayana, which is believed to be a brahmanical insertion, is also a great piece of the rich tradition.
