Why black gram or urad bean vada is famous in Chhattisgarh?

In this post I revealed a famous vada recipe with some interesting knowledge abot Chhattisgarhs traditional food.

Urd bean vada is also a famous recipe of every kitchen of Chhattisgarh, In Raigarh and Gharghoda, during the Chherchhera festival, Urdu bean vada is made in almost every house or kitchen.
Garh Kaleva is a food restaurant  of Raipur Chhattisgarh located in the Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum in the heart of Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. Only traditional Chhattisgarhi dishes are served here. Here, dry and wet snacks and meals are mainly used in the plain areas of Chhattisgarh like Chila, Vada, latka roti and more.

Simple ingredients:


 Urd daal, chillies, coriander leaves, ginger, curry leaves etc.
 Some extra ingredients if you wants.

Simple equipments:


In traditional Chhattisgarh people also use of grind with the help of stone (sil-lodha) or silouti, Now we use machines like Mixer grinders or other. For fry use iron or steel Kadhai.



Recipe for making Urd vada :

In a grinder, add soaked urad dal and grind it into a smooth batter, add little water while grinding.

Transfer this mixture into the parat.
Add chopped green chillies, coriander leaves, ginger, curry leaves mix it well.

Add Crushed black peppercorns, salt to taste and mix everything well.

Take a bowl of water and Apply some water on both your hands or take some batter in your hand and make a round shape.make a hole in the center. with thumb You can also use banana leaves to give a medu vada shape.
Heat oil in a kadai on medium flame.
Once the oil is hot, slide the vada into the hot oil.

Once the vada is slightly golden turn over the other side. Fry the vada on medium flame so that it’s cooked from inside.
Remove it on a kitchen tissue.
Fry them again so that it turns evenly crisp and golden in color.
Drain the vada on a kitchen tissue to remove excess oil.

Serve medu vada in Chhattisgarh style with tomato coriander soup or hot sambar and coconut chutney. don't forget in Chhattisgarh it's famous to serve with (Patal Chatni) also known as Tomato chutney.
